12V-2x6 Cable Assemblies

12V-2x6 is the 16-pin auxiliary power connector on current PCIe graphics and accelerator cards: twelve power contacts and four sense contacts, the sense lines telling the card how much power the supply can deliver. It is the revised form of 12VHPWR, changed so the sense contacts only engage once the power contacts are fully seated. Our manufacturing partner builds 12V-2x6 assemblies to your drawing — supply leads, power-distribution-board leads and adapters — with the connector parts and wire gauge you specify.

Applications

Where 12V-2x6 assemblies are used

GPU and accelerator servers

Leads from the power distribution board or a riser to PCIe GPU and accelerator cards in multi-GPU chassis.

Workstations and edge systems

Internal power for rendering, simulation and edge-inference builds that use 16-pin cards.

Adapters from 8-pin supplies

Two or more 8-pin inputs on one end, a 12V-2x6 plug on the other, and the sense lines wired for the power those inputs can carry.

Your specification

What you can specify

Each point is confirmed with our manufacturing partner before the quotation. Connectors are the genuine parts your drawing names, and an alternative is used only with your written approval.

  • Lengths, and how far the cable runs straight before its first bend
  • Wire gauge and insulation, within what the terminals accept
  • The far end: 12V-2x6, PCIe 8-pin, CPU 8-pin, a board connector or open leads
  • Sense-line wiring for the power class the card should see
  • Sleeving or braid, cable combs and labels
Testing

Testing and records

Every unit gets a continuity test — right pin, no open circuit, no short — and ships with a test report. Hi-pot, insulation resistance and pull-force testing follow the plan agreed in your quotation.

On a 12V-2x6 lead the continuity test covers the four sense lines as well as the power circuits, so the power class the cable signals is the one on your drawing.

How much does each pin carry?

Model the six 12 V pins and six returns of a 12V-2x6 or 12VHPWR connector as resistors, solve how the current really shares, and read each pin's current, each contact's heat and the margin left against the per-pin rating, a worn or open pin included.

FAQ

Common questions

Is a 12V-2x6 cable the same as a 12VHPWR cable?

They share the 16-contact layout. The 12V-2x6 revision changed the connector so the sense contacts only connect once the power contacts are fully seated, and 12V-2x6 parts carry an H++ mark where 12VHPWR parts carry H+. Tell us which version your card and supply use; the quotation names the exact connector parts.

Can you build adapters from 8-pin outputs to 12V-2x6?

Yes, to your drawing. How many 8-pin inputs the adapter has and how its sense lines are wired decide the power class the card sees, so both belong on the drawing — and the wiring is checked on every unit.

Which wire gauge should a 12V-2x6 cable use?

The gauge the connector maker's terminals accept and your current calls for. The drawing sets it and the quotation confirms the terminal and wire pairing; if you are unsure, send the card's power draw and the run length and a construction is proposed for your approval.

What should a 12V-2x6 RFQ include?

A drawing or sketch with lengths, the connector at each end with part numbers, wire gauge, the power class the sense lines should signal, sleeving and labels, and both prototype and production quantities.
